How to Audition
VoXX is currently looking for accomplished choral singers who read music and are comfortable singing alone on their part to join our merry band.
Would you like to audition?
FIRST: please read the information below to get a sense
of our basic expectations and how our process works.
Thanks for your interest in VoXX!

Members are also expected to purchase VoXX-approved concert attire.
Some financial help may be available.
Members with the appropriate skill-set teach and lead our repertoire; singers are expected to adjust to various conducting styles and to work in a collaborative fashion.
Members are encouraged to put their skills to use and help out: they can serve on one of the committees that keep the group running, pitch in with setup and breakdown at rehearsals and concerts, host an after-party, wrangle ushers, spread the word about performances, do publicity tasks, etc.
All members are also encouraged to suggest repertoire for possible inclusion in our concert sets.
To enable our self-run model, we rely heavily on e-mail and the members-only section of our website for intra-group communication. Therefore, all members are expected to have at least basic connectivity to the web and to check the website and email on a regular weekly basis.
The VoXX audition is done in two phases.
Phase I consists of a session with the candidate and the Music Committee. It covers pitch and interval matching, vocal quality and range, ability to control vibrato, sight-reading skills.
Phase II is an audition with the entire group during a regular Wednesday night rehearsal (7-9:30 p.m.).
The candidate joins in on all aspects of a regular rehearsal including warm-ups and learning of pieces the group is rehearsing for its current program. This is a chance for the candidate to see how VoXX works, as well as for the membership of VoXX to evaluate the candidate. The VoXX membership is provided with the candidate's application form for background prior to this rehearsal.
At the end of rehearsal, the candidate sings the pre-determined audition piece in quartet twice. The first time, the candidate is paired with a voice-partner from the group (for example, an alto candidate would be paired with an alto member of VoXX). The second time through, the VoXX voice-partner steps aside, and the candidate sings alone within the quartet as the rest of group listens.
